Music CD Cover
My theme for this project is based on psychedelic art with an art nouveau-ish feeling and integrating them into a cohesive cover for a Led Zeppelin compilation CD. I'm sort of following the concert posters from the 60's with the bright neon colors against the starkness of the black but putting a spin on it.

Hillman Curtis
I really liked all of the designers that we watched.
Carson:
I liked his attitude about not having gone to school and how it worked out well for him. Everything he did, he had a say in, there was no one to tell him no and his creativity showed that.
He is unique because his work is himself, he seems as if he was the first to be breaking these rules every one else had followed.
Scher:
Scher was interesting. She's very confident in her work but her work definitely deserves that kind of confidence. It's very interesting the way she used words to evoke this feeling of intensity. I know I'm familiar with some of the works they showed.
It was also great to see that she's so fast and intense about her work. With the Citi logo, how she had it on a napkin, done in a second. It's great to see a woman confident in the kind of work she does.
Sagmeister:
He is my favorite of the three. I felt like the other two, although very creative in their own right, were stuck in the box, the box of their computer. Everything they did had to do with working on their computers, Sagmeister was all about the way he presented the words to you.
He would use the computer to do a rough draft (the adobe ad) but goes beyond the computer and brings it to life in the real world, using objects that were unique, he expressed his ideas better than I think he could ever do on just a computer.
He doesn't let the computer define what kind of artist he is, he defines it on his own terms.

Typographic Me
The thing that interests me most in my life is traveling.
I went to 5 countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, and Greece) this summer and plan to go back as soon as possible. I can't wait to see the rest of the world and open my mind to new cultures and experiences.
I have my suitcase waiting...

Readings on Theme and Concept
Out of all of these readings two parts stuck out in my mind the most:
1 The section about High Fidelity. I have seen this movie but not exactly paid much attention to the use of green throughout the film. While reading this section of the text, I kept going back in my mind thinking about each section that was being referred to in the film.
I really enjoyed thinking about all of these little things I have missed in movies before. The idea of the theme has never been something that sticks in my mind as important but thinking about it after reading this makes me realize how there can be so much symbolism behind a theme.
2 I REALLY enjoyed the ad by BIC. It's eye-catching and interesting with the symbolism behind the infinity symbol drawn with their pen. I feel like when someone sees this they subconsciously think about the BIC pen lasting for a very long time.
Great ad, great concept, great theme. Everything the perfect ad should be.

The Four Basic Principles
Contrast: To make the piece more interesting and eye catching all of the elements should be different from each other. Making them the same will be boring and people will lose interest.
Repetition: To keep the piece consistent, repeat some of the visual elements. This will unify the piece and make it more interesting, keeping the viewer's attention.
Alignment: Every element should be aligned with another, this creates cohesion and a pleasing, clean look.
Proximity: Putting like items closer together physically will make the viewer see them as a unit. By placing unlike items farther apart there becomes organization within the information.
